First off, who is Michael Saylor?
Michael Saylor is an American entrepreneur and technology executive. He is the founder, CEO, and Chairman of MicroStrategy, a business intelligence company. Saylor has become a big influencer and advocate in the bitcoin community in recent years, due to his company’s large investments in the cryptocurrency.
He is known for his strong belief in the potential of bitcoin and blockchain technology to revolutionize the financial industry. Saylor has gained a reputation as a thought leader in the bitcoin community, and his opinions are sought after by many in the industry.
Since he has become extremely popular and influential in recent years, a lot of people want to learn from him and try to apply his ideas to their own lives. This is what happened to him recently at a party, where one particular man approached him with a piece of paper and asked if he could share some advice for his 21-year-old son, finishing high school, and entering adulthood.
Lessons from Michael
Here is some advice for young men and women entering adulthood.
- Focus your energy: You have a limited amount of energy in your life, you may think you can accomplish more than you actually can. You’ll get lucky to manage 1 thing at a time.
- Guard your time: people will try to take it from you. If you’re trying to achieve something and you’re not thinking about your time, it ends up dissipating.
- Train your mind to do whatever you’ve decided to do, whether it is music, art, or engineering.
- Train your body: you should stay healthy and take care of your body. If your body breaks down, your mind will follow.
- Think for yourself: the world is full of people trying to tell you what to think, and they spend their entire life planting narratives and ideas in your head, most of which are dysfunctional and self-serving. “we didn’t have breakfast, people invented cereal to sell you for breakfast” “when I was growing up there was no ADD, they invented ADD to sell you Adderall” think for yourself, and decide whether or not you believe what people are telling you.
- Curate your friends: you don’t need many, you just need a few. Decide who should be in your social sphere.
- Curate your environment: where do you want to be? put yourself in a calm place, a safe place, a productive place. whether it’s controlling what you have in your house or room, or the country you live in but curate it.
- Keep your promises, if you make a promise, keep it. If you break promises, people will lose faith in you and may never trust you again.
- Stay cheerful and constructive. There are many reasons to be negative, but those won’t help. Whatever you’re pursuing, no matter how many cynics and critics come at you, you have to be cheerful and constructive continue pursuing, and don’t focus on all that negativity, because it just distracts and dissipates energy.
- Upgrade the world, and make it a better place.
And he continued adding…
“I think one of the biggest risks in this world is that we have too much of everything”. While you may have opinions on a wide range of topics, it’s unlikely that your opinions on 999 out of 1000 of those topics will be more valuable than those of experts in those fields. Instead of trying to have an opinion on everything, focus on a single area and do your best to deliver high-quality work in that area.
It’s important for others to know and understand where you’re focusing your attention. If people know where you’re focusing on, you’ll stop receiving so many other things coming your way. If you’re trying to stay up to date with what’s going on in 27 different communities, you’ll be approached by all of these communities, and most likely, you won’t deliver at the level you can for any of them.
In today’s world, it’s becoming increasingly important to specialize and focus on a specific area in order to succeed, rather than trying to be a generalist. This is more valid than ever in the digital realm. If you’ve specialized in a particular area, such as teaching people how to tie knots, and have built a large following of people who are interested in that topic, it’s a sign that your expertise is valuable to others. They want to learn from you and continue to see more of what you have to offer.
Ultimately, it’s important to find something that we’re passionate about and enjoy doing, and to focus on it in order to become a specialist. By doing this, we can become experts that others look to for advice, read our articles, or listen to our podcasts. For me, finding my passion and specializing in it has been a challenge, but it’s one that I’m committed to overcoming.
