Nike, the global shoe brand, has launched a new non-fungible token (NFT) platform called .SWOOSH and is inviting community members to participate in a contest called #YourForce1. The contest challenges users to build a visual storyboard on Instagram showcasing their footwear design.
Four winners will be chosen, each earning $5,000 and the opportunity to work directly with Nike designers to create their own one-of-one digital sneakers. The four designs could also become part of Nike’s first signature collection, which is set to launch in the near future. The contest opened today and closes on January 29th.
Creative Storytelling over Creative Skills
After previously purchasing the Ethereum domain dotswoosh.eth for 19.72 ETH, Nike stated in a press release, “At .SWOOSH, we’d like to expand the definition of what a creator can be. That’s why this .SWOOSH Studio contest prioritizes creative storytelling over creative skills.” The full brief and instructions for the contest can be found on the Nike website.
Web3 Strategy
Nike has been tapping into its Web3 strategy for several years. In November, it released .SWOOSH and acquired digital fashion house RTFKT to take its first steps into the metaverse. In 2020, the company announced it would begin testing RFID linked to blockchain technology to trace the supply chain process.

In short
.SWOOSH is giving sneaker enthusiasts the opportunity to design their own digital wearables and potentially have their designs become part of the brand’s signature collection.
The #YourForce1 contest is open to all .SWOOSH community members and is focused on creative storytelling over technical skills. This is in line with Nike’s overall strategy of tapping into the Web3 space, having previously acquired digital fashion house RTFKT and announcing plans to test RFID linked to blockchain technology to trace the supply chain process. This new initiative is a bold move by the brand to embrace the digital age and give its customers a unique and personal experience.
